Fishtown
Formerly the center of the shad fishing industry on the Delaware River, Fishtown retains a great deal of its working-class Philly heritage. Recent revitalization has created a burgeoning bar, restaurant, art, and local music scene. A colorful exception to the gridded-out urban rule, one must spend a little time in Fishtown to understand the boundaries of the neighborhood.
With easy access to Center City via the Market-Frankford subway/elevated rail line, many young professionals are attracted to the area, which is comprised of both older residential homes and new construction low-rise condominiums. Newcomers’ integration and collaboration with the neighborhood’s long-time residents and families have set Fishtown on a forward-thinking path and it’s rapidly becoming the epitome of cool.
